If you are a part of my close friends and family then you may know most of this about me but I figured why not start a blog for my friends and family I don't see all the time.. why not document my journey through life and whatever else God lays on my heart.

Good Bye 2009

WOW what a year it has been! This was quite a amazing year for Slate and I but also a BUSY one! We spent the months of January to May attending parties and showers for our big day then wed on May 16th! For the fall, we spent most of our time attending football games (Go REBELS!) and other friends weddings! Next thing we knew, it was Thanksgiving, then Christmas, and now close to New Year's Eve!

A Couple of Firsts this year:

1. We got married!!
2. Slate attended his first bible study
3. I started my first bible study
4. I rode a horse
5. I quail hunted
6. We moved in together
7. Celebrated our 1st Thanksgiving in Oxford
8. Celebrated Christmas Day together (everything use to be seperate until we were married :)
9. I started volunteering actively for a non profit!!
10. Slate participated in his 1st Polar Bear swim!

I hope to make this a tradition that we tell our "firsts" at the end of each year to look back and think of all the new things we did or tried that year!

Any big firsts for you guys? I would love to hear!

Same Different Kind As Me

Ok so a few months ago my Friend Veronica and I were out to lunch and she said " I want you to read this book I just finished, I think you would really like it." She ended up bringing it to bible study one night and I was still reading Facing Your Giants so I told myself I would read it next. Well of course I forgot and started reading another book but then this past week I was looking all around for a good book to start. I remembered the one she gave me so I dived in that next morning and Oh.my.gosh it was SO good! I couldn't put it down! I ended up reading the entire book in a day and a half! I cried a few times, I smiled a lot, I laughed a little, and most of all it left me wanting to be a better person. What made this book even more special is that its a TRUE STORY! Same Different Kind As Me by Ron Hall and Denver Moore is a New York Times Best Seller as well so that should convince some of you that it's a great book!

This book will even strengthen your faith in God and how all things work together for the good of him. So if you are looking for a good book, check this one out, I really don't think you will be disappointed!

What I am Thankful For..

I love Thanksgiving because it's a great reminder of all that we have to be thankful for in each of our lives. For the past few years my mom has made it a tradition that each of us go around the table and tell what it is we are thankful for. I always start thinking about what I will say a week or so in advance hence my blogpost, it was on my mind :).

This year I would have to say that I am most thankful for my family (immediate, in laws, extended etc). This past Saturday I was given the opportunity through my friend Mary, to participate in helping her church host an event for those less fortunate. Weeks of preparation went into this event. They collected clothing for every age of life, coats, shoes, detergent, toys etc. Mary and I were assigned to be personal shoppers with a young woman who was probably in her early 20s or late teens. Before we even started shopping with her, the organizers told us that the main area of need for most of these people according to the sheet they each filled out, was simply having someone to talk to, someone to listen. They said that many of them never have any visitors.

This immediately broke my heart and made me see my family in a different light. I am so thankful that I have family to visit with and to share the good and bad times with. We all take so much for granted in our own lives. I know for me I have to remember each day that I am so lucky to have food on the table and a roof over my head... it didn't cross my mind that I should be thankful for all of the visitors I receive and all of the people that ask me how I am doing! I definitely took that for granted!

With the start of this holiday season... try to think of everything you have to be thankful for. I would like to encourage you to listen to that friend who is going through a rough time even when you feel like you don't have the time, invite that friend or family member to your celebration if you know they don't have anyone else to spend the special day with. Even though I know it can be hard, be thankful that your friends or family want to talk to you on the phone and that you have unexpected visitors at times!

Hope each of you have a VERY Happy Thanksgiving and find so much to be thankful for that maybe you took for granted before! :)

Louie Giglio + Chris Tomlin + Matt Redman = Passion City Church!!

Some of you may remember 7:22 when it was held at North Point Community Church. If you do then you would not be able to forget the AMAZING Pastor Louie Giglio and all of his awesome messages! Well it was brought to my attention that he along with others such as Chris Tomlin and Matt Redman are starting up their OWN church where Louie will be the pastor here in Atlanta!!

Passion City Church is currently meeting twice a month here in Atlanta. They will meet more frequently once they nail down a more permanent location. Slate and I attended the service Sunday night and WOW is all I have to say! I could not help but be so moved by the entire service! Chris Tomlin led worship and if any of you have ever been in his presence you know that he exuberates an energy that is hard to describe. To me it's like no other!

I have been to a lot of church services in my life and I can tell you that Sunday was the most moved I have EVER been. Tears were falling down my face not because I was sad but because I had never felt God so much in my life! I KNEW God was in the room.. I KNEW our praise and worhsip was rocking the heavens and I KNEW that God was pleased beyond words!

I wanted to get the word out so that if you remember Louie, Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman or the rest of the Passion team and were looking for where they were now you will know. The next gathering will take place Nov. 8 at the Cobb Galleria at 6pm!

A lot can change in a year

This past year has been one huge roller coaster for me. This time last year, I was planning my dream wedding, working as a lobbyist for the State, living with my best friends, and was doing my thing on the weekends.. whether it was going out for drinks with friends or nice dinners with Slate. During this same month.. I walked into my job one day to find out that I no longer had a place to work. I was laid off. I felt like my world had been turned upside down.. how will I help contribute to the wedding? Where will I get money to live on? How will I pay my bills? What will people think of me now? Needless to say I was lost and felt like I didn't know where to go.

At this point I felt attacked by life's biggest fears and didn't know how to handle it. I tried to look for jobs online everyday and tried to think of what I could do. I worked for an attorney for a few months and that fell through so by February of this year I really felt that I had been brought to my lowest point ever. I was on my knees begging for some direction from God about where I needed to be and what I needed to be doing. Prior to God bringing me to my knees.. I was so caught up in what others thought of me and my job situation. I always thought I had done pretty good for myself with the jobs I had gotten or promotions I had received. People often thought highly of me for the work I was doing or positions I had acquired which kept me feeling good. I was your usual political guru.. I loved to talk Politics and enjoyed the debates. I felt content and excited most days.. I felt important.

When God brought me to my knees.. he showed me so much in scripture that I cant even begin to document it all to you. I went and purchased this small 31 daily devotions of what God had to say about Times of Uncertainty. Through those 31 days I learned a lot about why God brings us to that point but also I learned that what I thought was important in life was not the same things God thinks is important in life.

He showed me how selfish I had become. Every fear I had stemmed from what others thought of me or how I would pay for my worldly possessions. I needed money! I wasn't concerned about those less fortunate or helping others. I needed to help myself! I needed to survive! Wow has my perception changed.

Through these last 9 months God has changed me in so many ways that I hope to discuss throughout my journey of blogging. I am now actively involved in a non profit where I am able to use a past misery to help comfort those less fortunate. God has given me a passion for those that feel unloved and undesired..especially for teenage girls. I am now a substitute teacher and after God laying it on my heart for a year.. started a Women's Bible Study with my new friends here in Cumming. I don't care what others think of me and my worldly status. I am happier now than I have EVER been with where I am in terms of a career. I know now that money is not what you need to survive.. God is what you need. He will always provide for us if our hearts are in the right place. I'm learning how precious the gift of giving really can be. I am pleasing God and not others. Thank GOD that he brought me to my knees and showed me what is important to him! I hope no one takes this the wrong way.. this is my story only.. not my perception of others.

Love you all,

Brittany
